![]() ![]() Regardless of your choice, I hope you enjoy the game! It truly is a great one. If you do decide on the CD version, be sure to download the xOmicron UserPatch, which will drastically improve your ingame experience, as well as the Forgotten Empires mod version, [an incomplete version of the Forgotten Expansion on Steam. Not only does it have the Forgotten Expansion, but yet another expansion was also recently announced for the HD Edition (we are working on it right now). If someone has a poor connection, however, it will cause the game to lag.Īnother important thing to note, though, is that the HD Edition on Steam (and not the CD version) is still receiving official support from MS. If everyone in the game has a green ping number, you should experience little-to-no lag. Additionally, whether or not you get lag depends on your connection. The Steam and GameRanger communities are larger as well (though voobly does have some nice features as a client), so you're more likely to always find a game with people of similar skill level on either of those. ![]() ![]() Since you're a newer player, I'd recommend GameRanger or Steam, since voobly is very competitive and has a reputation of not being friendly to newer players. Voobly never played a part in developing AoE2 they are one of several third party clients that allow you to play the CD version online. To clarify for powerskull, he means the CD version, which was developed by Ensemble Studios 15 years ago and is still for sale in several stores.
